My minor pet peeve in the English language is that hyphenated multi-word terms do not carry the hyphen all the way.
I would prefer anti-air-defence to anti-air defence because they’re not defending against air.

One of my favourite stories of my nan was that she wanted to join the Women’s Auxiliary, but was a very small woman, who’s weight was under the requirements to join. That didn’t stop her though, so when she went to sign up, she wore every piece of clothing she owned, along with all her sister’s clothing, and put kitchen weights in her pockets. They accepted her, and measured her for her uniform right then, over the twenty-plus layers of clothing. So every photo of her in the Women’s Auxiliary, she’s wearing a uniform several sizes too big, which makes her look even smaller. She was a badass though, despite her size.
