Glenmorangie a fab supermarket buy. Other great and similar I’d recommend is Old Pulteney 12
thanks I can’t wait to try this looked really good from their website! https://oldpulteney.com/about-us/
To add to this if smoky / peaty is your thing also consider Laphroaig and Highland Park.
I think I have heard of Laphroaig on some youtube review. thanks! 😀
Seconding both of those recommendations and I’d also throw in Jura and Bunnahabhain.
Also, FYI, when it’s Scotch you don’t spell whisky with an e :-)
Laphroaig is my favorite. Very sophisticated and not super expensive
Talisker 10 is pretty solid if you like a good smoky, briny single malt whisky. It’s like drinking a campfire by the sea. It has great character.
Aberlour 10 is a great Speyside whisky with sweet caramel and fruity notes. It’s my go-to for an easy drinking whisky.
They’re both very accessible in terms of budget.
Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for! 😍 🤩 Is there any explanation why if I drink some Glenmorangie18 the adverse affects are basically non-existent compared to cheaper stuff?
Longer they age in the barrel the more the sulfates and other undesirables pass out of the whiskey. That might be something to do with it.
Wow thanks for the insight, I had no idea about this. I thought it was solely the wood of the barrel giving off flavors over time. It’s kind of surprising to me that these substances will vanish over time.
Maybe you don’t mind drinking more of a cheap whisky then you would a more expensive one, which you’d probably use more sparingly?
Maybe a tiny bit more expensive than a Glenmorangie, but I keep a bottle of Dalmore 12 at all times. It’s just so smooth and round.
thank you 😃 I will give it a go
Came to say Dalmore!!
Balvenie is smooth like Glen Morangie and has vanilla notes, there is also a rum cask version if you like more spice.
thank you for your kind recommendation, I will add this to my shopping list.
I’d second the Aberlour mentioned already and add Tomatin 12. Ardbeg’s Wee Beastie is a good one to try and for cheapness Aldi do a12 year old single malt Glen Marnoch, good depth of flavour and smooth as you like.
Thank you for your kind recommendations, there is a whiskey store downtown, I will ask them if they can give me a tasting of these and the other recommendations. Maybe I can buy the ones I like best first and then strategically add more bottles of this list. I mean it doesn’t go bad.
