It’s a reference to the Ubisoft mechanic seen on most of it’s open world games of going to a tower, in this case a reference to Far Cry so it’s a radio tower, and do/activate something and that “scans” and add to the map points of interest in that zone around the tower.
To me, blackflag was fun because it was single player (my fav AC game by far) . If they made another single player pirate game I would play the shit out of it
Yeah, I was initially super interested. Cut down the AC stuff, build out the ships, and you’re good to go.
Then I found out it was live service trash and stopped caring.
I could feel all my interest evaporate.
I would do unspeakable things to get a Sid Meier’s: Pirates! Live the Life style game, but with Black Flag controls/graphics.
Honestly, I got a Ship-of-the-Line in that game once when I was like 13, and every game from then on I hunted for them trying to capture a whole fleet, but they were pretty rare.
I want that feeling of “I’m hunting for a specific ship and country/cargo” again. Black flag is still my all time favorite AC
Thats a million dollar idea right there, too bad the game would be too big for an indie company to produce and triple A studios are too dumb to invest on new ideas.
I think it’s one of those “it will be profitable, but not in a short enough time for it to boost my career” kind of games. There is plenty of interest, just not enough for big sales right out the Gate, which is what AAA companies want.

Black Flag is still my favorite AC. I never finished the story, because I enjoyed sailing the seas and singing along to shanties.
I finished it once and then went New Game+ and just sailed and sailed.
Only game I never uninstall, just use it to relax.
You should really finish the story, the ending is amazing imo. The story starts weak and the middle is kinda meh but the ending… Soooooo good

You have a source for that? I’ve only seen Ubi is on the hook for the money used if the game doesn’t ship
Nope. The only known “fact” is that Ubisoft was given a grant by Singapore which obligated them to release it at some point. Can’t imagine why Ubisoft would keep that thing in development for so long instead of just releasing anything if it wasn’t for external money that they don’t have to care about.
why?, valve keep the game in development for longer, and in the end if worth, why can’t ubisoft do the same?
Meanwhile SoT churns out content and updates, maintaining a very active and solid population over the years. Plus full PvE mode coming soon which will be fun for a lot of players wanting to casually enjoy all the Tall Tales content.
I can imagine a lot of SoT players giving it a go, just to go back. I think the ship’s sailed on this one.

From what I understand, Ubisoft received a grant from the Singapore government that basically mandates this game be published, as opposed to the recent Hyenas cancelation.

Right, but they should have just released it knowing it was going to die, unless they continue to receieve funding if they keep delaying it? Its just a money pit by this point and the faster they dump it the faster they can stop sinking money into it.

This will not be a hit. This game has been delayed how many times already and its still in a worse state than Star Citizen. This game had a chance to be mediocre like 5 years ago, but by now its got zero chances.

This game has set itself up to fail in a similar way that Metal Gear Survive set itself up to fail. Viewer reactions have been across the board pretty negative to footage released. Most people have said they do not plan to play the game. When a development studio sees a lot of negative feedback for early content, they make a choice of delaying and reworking what they have to hopefully get more positive reception, or releasing anyways to largely expected negative reception. The problem is Skull and Bones has been delayed multiple times, and every time it has had content shown the reception has been mostly negative. That’s generally a sign to a studio to drop development completely, because releasing will cost the company more money than dropping the game. This game has a legal requirement to release. So they either release and damage their reputation again, or they delay and rework. But they can only delay and rework so many times, their funding is not infinite.

If the company making the lightbulb was going bankrupt, had numerous reports of unethical and illegal activity, had made only mid-at-best lightbulbs before, was cancelling other more promising lightbulb designs, and looked like a bootleg of another company’s lightbulb, maybe.
Alright, you make a compelling argument. We’ll see, but I do have friends that are still optimistic about this game when it eventually launches, they mostly just grovel about it not being done yet.
Maybe the broader circles are more informed and more negative. I’m projecting a bit in that I’ve loosely followed this game after learning it was even a planned thing a few months ago from the friend that still carries some optimism for it.
I don’t think the “mass market” follows prerelease content in the way you’re suggesting basically. If it releases as a polished game, and I hadn’t had this conversation, I would never have known or cared about early reception of the gameplay/gameplay footage.

It’s been established for a couple years now that it’s already going to be DOA. Ubisoft games almost are as a default these days, but this one in particular seems extra cursed.
Well it wasnt originally going to be DOA, but then they showed gameplay.
