“Our own hope is that, through AI, we can eventually approximate a 1:1 teacher:student ratio for every student in CS50, as by providing them with software-based tools that, 24/7, can support their learning at a pace and in a style that works best for them individually,” CS50 professor David Malan told The Harvard Crimson.
Can’t wait till the bot hallucinates a bunch of information.
I mean, this seems kind of ideal in some ways, kind of terrifying in other ways.
I did CS50 (online for free) and some of the online communities were amazingly helpful but mostly if you asked your question well. A lot of folks flame out or have no idea how to ask the question properly (eg, posting a giant wall of code and asking “why doesn’t this work?”) For things like that, an AI assistant could be amazingly helpful. Or even explaining some of the concepts in different ways.
But, the hallucinations and concerns about replacing people are also valid ans worrying.
In a better world, this sort of AI revolution would be the most exciting and hope inspiring things ever. In ours though, we know it’ll be mass unemployment/further wealth inequality…
I’m sure they pass on the savings to the students…
Cs50 is free to everyone in the world. I’m taking it right now.
