Literally doubling down on a war crime. I truly don’t understand why America supports Israel at this point. I don’t see what we gain by continuing support, nor do I see what we lose by not continuing support. We lose more international respect with every passing day of complicity to Israel’s genocidal conquest. We were supposed to be better than this.

The Wix internal chat encouraging creation of propaganda summed it up very well: “show Westernity… unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans.”

They are a strong extension of western power in an area that is traditionally not all that friendly, as Joe Biden will tell anyone, “if Israel didn’t exist we would have to make an Israel.”

The US talks about moral superiority pretty often but has a long history of supporting friendly despots, we hear all about the murderers who took over Cuba and little about the US ally and mass murderer Bautista, or Pinochet, or Saddam Hussein. They would overthrow Jesus Christ and Ghandi if US interests were threatened. As long as they remain friendly to the US they can do just about anything with US carriers to protect them.

Hamas has been building bunkers under some locations at these camps. Israel did give warning.

Hope you’re getting paid to post, because increasingly it’s falling on deaf ears. The world can see what’s happening.

No but the celebration of Hamas here is embarrassing. Most of the world knows of the reality in the ground. Lemmy is not typical of most views.

No one is celebrating Hamas. In a just world they wouldn’t exist because Israel would welcome Palestinians as Semitic brothers and they would live and work together. Lemmy may not hold the same views of society, but increasingly the world is seeing the truth. Join us November 4 at the National March on Washington to Free Palestine.

It’s possible to denounce both Israeli leadership and Hamas. Killing civilians is bad, and the people doing it are murderers. This is not a controversial take, and it’s weird that it doesn’t seem to have occurred to many people. Terrorist attacks are bad, and so are retaliatory escalations to genocide.

Except for the just part on Lemmy everytime there are civilian deaths, the posts are but but but Israel. Hamas uses civilians as shields. Hamas does not give two shits about Palestine other than the power they hold. The civilians voted for them in 2008 but it will take the civilians to forcefully remove them. That will result in a great number of civilian deaths unless Israel helps target then as well. That is the reality.

I must not be understanding what you’re trying to say because it sounds like you’re justifying Israel killing Palestinian civilians on the basis that it could alter the results of a democratic election. And I’m not defending Hamas in the slightest. Quick correction though: Hamas won their election in 2006, not 2008, and they won very slightly (3% plurality and not the majority). Additionally, they indefinitely postponed the following scheduled election that was supposed to take place in 2021.

So even if we somehow forgot or ignored that intentionally killing civilians is a blatant war crime, you’d still be wrong in your point that killing civilians is okay because it would affect the election such that Hamas would be voted out. They aren’t doing any more elections because they know they’d lose and they know that they have the power to just decide to not do them anymore. Hamas is literally recognized as a terrorist organization by many groups including the EU and the US.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Israel retaliating by killing Palestinian civilians doesn’t solve the problem; it escalates it. And I worry that Israel will be permitted to continue all the way up to their end goal of fully eradicating Palestine, both in terms of people and land. I implore you to educate yourself more on the century-long conflict before continuing to spread disinformation, willfully or otherwise.

Israel is not targeting civilians intentionally, unlike Hamas. But they knowingly do realize civilians will be killed in certain attacks against Hamas. You might not agree that is acceptable but it is not a war crime and the reality is that this is always a likely possibility when you have enemies and terrorist groups that use human shields. Particularly when that group is also the defacto government of said country.

If you dont add “/s” then some people (especially those who dont speak English natively) will think you’re actually supporting Israel.

If you dont want to reinforce their opinions, please remember to always add “/s” at the end of your comment if you’re beingsarcasric. Its necessary in text communities.

I really want to believe that Israel is good. But then I see a child being dragged out of rubble after being bombed. And now Israel bombed a refugee camp. It makes me question if they’re the good guys. How can I get rid of these conflicting thoughts in my head?

How can I get rid of these conflicting thoughts in my head?

Realize that they aren’t the good guys? That this petty land conflict has been raging on for decades, and it always hit the civilians on both sides (exponentially worse for the Palestinians). IDF and Hamas can fuck themselves.

But if Israel is the bad guys, then that would mean America and the Western world are bad guys too. I’d have to rethink what I’ve been taught and told my entire life. It would be more comfortable to just believe the lies I’ve been told. If I did want to accept that Israel and America are the bad guys, could you give me any advice on how to educate myself about the lies I’ve been told?
