Since they announced the remake of Super Mario RPG, I’ve found myself playing the original again.
In fact, I have a few classics that I still play regularly.
- Zelda ALttP
- Super Metroid
- Metroid Prime (Switch remaster is 🔥)
- Kirby Air Ride (City Trial is still my go-to party game with my 30 year old friends)
- Super Mario 64
What about you guys?
I’ve never really stopped playing Super Mario World.
Mario World world map is like a Mario Kart track at this point. Every year we take another lap.
Do you play any rom hacks?
honestly, i’m always running so far behind on my backlog that i rarely get to replay games. mario world/mario 64 is what i replay when they get bumped into a new service
If I still had my 64 I’d break out paper mario once a year.
Done this twice since Nintendo put it on the virtual console. Still such a fantastically funny and entertaining game.
Love the OG! I’ve heard Thousand Year Door is even better but I haven’t gotten around to playing it.
Emulate it! Project 64 is great, among others, I’m sure.
Super Mario 64! I love that game. It brings back so much memories.
I’m probably too young to have it as a childhood memory, but I play it now and then on emulators, it’s such a great game
Does Pokemon count? Because that’s forever going to be my jam.
Been playing since Red and Blue. I always go back to the remakes for HGSS. I think they were some of the best. While maybe not retro being remakes, I still say they belong.
Super Mario 3, there is just something into it that I just keep coming back to.
- Secret of Mana 1+2
- Terranigma
- Chrono Trigger
- Earthbound
- ALttP
… for the SNES. Those were the games I grew up with and every other year I get the itch to replay one of those. I’ve considered playing the remake of SoM 2 but the demo felt bland and off to me.
On a related note, I would totally buy each of those for the Switch so I could play them on a proper handheld, but the current system with the yearly subscription that basically only rents those games to the end user and forces them to stay online, is something I find off-putting. I’d much rather just pay once and be done, like with every other game in the eShop.
Ocarina of Time, Super Metroid, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz…I’ll probably still be playing these when I’m in a nursing home lol
Super Mario RPG has a pretty fun randomizer I’ll sometimes go back for a run in. Been a while since I have, but with the remake coming up might get back into it.
I spend a lot of my time around classic games but man do I still sink a lot of hours into Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. The game is about to turn 20 so I’ve been playing through the cups/challenges again.
Shadow Mario is still one of the coolest unlockable characters m
Too many to list but here’s a few:
Zelda
Zelda 2
Mario 3
Mega Man 2
TMNT 2— SNES —
Mario world
Zelda LTTP
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 3 (6)Bro yes, ff3 and Chrono trigger are amazing. Love replaying them
Def agree. Best rpgs in my gaming career. Nothing even comes close to them imo
I recently finished playing through Chrono Trigger for the first time. Holy hell, what an amazing experience. Even after all these years, it holds up incredibly well.
It really is a treat. I still have my cartridge with the original save battery inside. Gonna fail at some point but hasn’t yet.
I’d like an F-Zero that captures the visual style of the 16-bit version. More cartoony / anime than realistic.
I don’t replay games too often due to life in general and time constraints. Made time earlier this year to go back through A Link to the Past and Donkey Kong Country. Considering going back and playing Ocarina of Time sometime soon
Always the classic, I often return to Golden Sun. While it’s great that they’re adding Golden Sun 1 to Switch Online for some new gamers to try out and experience for themselves, I’m hopeful they’ll remaster the three games for Switch. If Advance Wars gets that treatment, I think younger generations should get to experience these games fleshed out on Switch.
For those who haven’t played or heard of GS, it’s a massive cult-classic JRPG that released on Game Boy Advance in 2001. The first 2 games are a beloved series, and they made a third one for the Nintendo DS some time in the mid 2000s.
Super Mario World will always be my go-to.
