For context, Tuvalu is one of the first countries expected to become completely uninhabitable due to sea level rise:
Much of their land area, along with critical infrastructure, will be below the average high tide by 2050. And future sea level rise will worsen the effects of tides, waves, and storms, greatly increasing the frequency and severity of periodic flooding.
Tuvalu is 11 000 people it’s a good thing Australia can resettle them if the worse comes to worse.
Countries like Bangladesh with 50 million people or so on the floodplains are a different order of magnitude and will likely create a massive climate refugee problem
That’s a scary thought. Even with Tuvalu, imagine your country just disappearing… Surreal.
Perhaps the people of Tuvalu should have a good look at how Australia treats any firm of asylum seekers before agreeing to this deal.
