Just finished building this beast. It’s a ratrig Vcore 3.1 with a 500x500x500mm build volume and blazing speed.
Wow. I guess you use larger nozzles for something like that? How do you get an extruder to keep up with the flow rate? Also, this is my first post on Lemmy.
On my VC3 500 I use a rapido with a 0.4mm. My default PLA settings are 300mms with 10kmms2 acceleration. I’m not sure about OP but for me the larger build volume lets me kick off a full plate of parts and come back a few hours later. Gets pretty good quality but at that size/weight you do get some ringing on the parts.
Ayy another vc3500 haver. I use a .6mm bondtech CHT volcano, but honestly I’ve been having trouble getting past 30mm^3 per second, which is unfortunate. My main goal with it is actually giant parts, but the mass production thing is pretty cool too.
North of ~25mm^3 I’ve found I need to really up the temps to keep up with PLA (mainly using eSun) which then also means a lot more cooling. I managed a pretty decent 14 minute benchy but need to retest as I’ve upgraded my cooling.
My current setup for extrusion:
- Rapido high flow with CHT
- Orbiter 2 with blowy mod to run at higher current
- CPAP remote cooling with a WS7040 blower
- HUVUD toolboard on printhead
Mine is basically the ratrig recommended defaults except for the CHT, a beacon scanner, and a carbon fiber rail. I got to a 16 minute benchy basically immediately, but anything else I print that fast causes either skipped steps or belt slips and I’m not sure why.
Nice not bad! A pretty easy upgrade for power (if you have a mainboard that supports it) is to go to 48v for the steppers with 5160 step sticks, gobs more power, but you are also now getting to territory where a crash can start really breaking stuff. There is also a group in the discord where they are working on the AWD mod to add 2 more steppers to the XY motion allowing for insane speeds.
Oh so that’s what AWD is? Sounds cool. For me though, my issue is probably down to belt tension.
That has got to impact the room temperature substantially?
it is fortunately fully enclosed, which makes the heating a lot more efficient. It definitely still warms the room up though.
With summer coming I hope it has a cooling bed.
That’s not a printer. That’s furniture. 😃
I bet the cat approves.
What a BEAST! I like the orange.
That’s a beast! Post a video of it in action!
what’s the best way to post videos on lemmy? Know a good hosting site? Also, I’m working through filament pathing issues right now so it’s not going as fast as it could be.
Wow that’s gigantic! And here I thought my 350mm3 printer really filled up the room. No comparison at all! Are you able to get this beast through your doorways?
Only if I remove the spool holder. It’s designed to fit basically exactly through a standard door.
How hard was it to build? I’ve always wanted a huge CoreXY like this but seems daunting.
It took me like a week of solid building every day. I’d probably recommend the 400mm bc there’s a lot of extra wire crimping you have to do to get your cables long enough on this version. Also, squaring the giant frame is kinda hard. But if you’ve built a Voron or something before it’s not too crazy. The sourcing and instructions are way easier as well.
Hey mine is not finished yet but hope that it will be in a week or two . nice color btw .:)
That looks fantastic. Any videos while printing?
