Can’t imagine that extraterrestrial aliens would be more weird than what is population our oceans.

I don’t know how it’s possible to feel more protected when you’re entirely made out of spikes, but OK.

Apparently this is what they look like in the wild when they use rocks:

Some fish are good at pulling off individual spikes one at a time.

This sounds fake but I’d love it to be true!

It’s true. Urchins do in fact use things like shells as hats.

And some have been dropping hat shaped prints on them for pics.

I just love (/s) how they 3D printed the hats with plastic. Give them some more plastic why don’t you?

It’s an aquarium. The plastic was probably removed after a while

This is like how corporations treat people on given issues

Instead of lowering emissions, let’s throw our plastic in the ocean

Instead of cutting off funding to anti-gay candidates, let’s sell rainbow clothing

Sorry to rain on your parade, but that’s in a reef tank, dude. The lighting is quite specific to man made lights.

Not to say that keeping a reef tank is the most ecologically responsible thing to do, but…

I wasn’t claiming these hats were in the ocean

It’s that the urchins (like people) are trying to protect themselves but the scientists (corporations) are just gaslighting them for their amusement

You don’t think the hats were for the amusement of people

The post itself says it’s for protection

They’re in a tank. They literally do not need protection. They also do not care. The hats fill their microbrain compulsions just fine. They don’t need your absurd “hey, aren’t we all just urchins in hats!?” train of thought.

They’re probably living their best lives. They’re not being raised for food, they’re not living in a wild ocean… they’re wearing dapper hats instead of the dead husks of their seaborn brethren.

You could take a lesson from those urchins.
