I finally got a steam deck and I can’t decide what to play on it. Most recently I dusted off Hand of Fate 2 and I’m having fun with that all over again.
When I got my Steam Deck a few months ago, I spent the first week or so just modding Skyrim so I could play it on yet another device. Then I played it a ton until I finally took a break for some other games.
Picked up The Messenger for another run. Since I got 100% achievements last time I thought it would be a breeze this time. Nope. 214 deaths so far.
Just picked it up on Switch based off the strength of Sea of Stars!
Decided to give Dredge a shot. It seemed like a decent enough game to play while listening to podcasts. It makes me uneasy and I’m barely paying attention to the podcasts 😅
It’s got a killer atmosphere, I’ll give it that!
I’ve decided to finish the ancient Payday The Heist on PC and get all the achievements with a friend and it‘s been really intense and fun so far, of course the online play is largely dead lol
Mario RPG remake. Actually my first time playing Mario RPG altogether, but I do really enjoy the first couple Paper Mario games, so seeing essentially where the Paper Mario series came from adds to the interest (IIRC, wasn’t the original Paper Mario known as Mario RPG 2 in Japan at least for a while?). The game feels very short, I’m only a couple hours in and already three stars in, but given it was originally a SNES game it makes sense. It’s cool to finally experience a game I was jealous of as a Genesis owner instead of SNES as a kid, even if it’s not 100% to the original, though from what I understand it’s quite a faithful remake, so still pretty close to the original experience.
As a big fan of the original, it’s almost a perfect remake. You’re getting the same experience we SNES kids did decades ago, but better.
Finally getting into Disco Elysium after a false start last year. Great game, spectacular writing, though it does require a little bit of investment.
I put about three hours into it. It’s obviously a well put together game that a lot of love went into, but it just ended up being way too much dialogue for me. Most people love the game though, hope you enjoy it!
I had the same problem on my first try! I’d been trying to do everything and talk to everyone about everything and just drowned in words.
On my second try, though, I took a different approach: what if I am this guy, just want to get the job done, and only do stuff for the purpose of trying to progress the case? That worked great for me, and the game is structured so this still takes you through much of its contents – only, now, there is a purpose to it.
So, thanks, friend! I am indeed now enjoying this game, and I hope you are enjoying whatever you are playing also.
I got stuck a few hours into it and quit trying. I really want to love this game and play it through multiple times, but it just doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t want to read any guides or spoilers. I want whatever path I take through the game to be my path, but it isn’t working for me.
I finally got around to beating Doom Eternal’s DLC, which I often found more of a grind than entertaining (some of the Ancient Gods fights just go on and on, and I hated the final boss.)
Then I started on Turbo Overkill, which does have a lot of Doom’s DNA but the pacing is a lot more fun so far! Been trying to get back into Hitman (3+2+1) as well.
But mostly I spend a shocking (to me) amount of my quick gaming time on Xenotilt: Hostile Pinball Action. I did not expect to get so completely absorbed into virtual pinball (been meaning to post about it on the pinball communities) but little by little I’ve been getting better at it. My current high score is only 1.2 billion, which feels good to get into the billions club but the ceiling is still so much higher!
I wanted more Vampire Survivors content when I’ve already finished Vampire Survivors. I just discovered that Survivors is a genre now, and there’s a ton of copycat games of varying quality. I’m poking around looking for good ones.
Picked up Spellbook: Demon Slayers because it was a $5 game on sale for a dollar off. It’s still in early access, and that shows. It’s clearly unfinished but it’s got good bones.
Pros: Solid mechanics. Solid variety of spells and builds. Nice variety of endgame and meta progression systems with a reasonable amount of grinding.
Cons: Only three indistinguishable maps, limited enemy variety, and I’m not a fan of the endgame being effectively gated by farming endless mode. I like Vampire Survivors having games effectively limited to 15-30min sessions with all content doable within those constraints, endless mode optional, making time commitments much more predictable and reliable. Spellbook: Demon Slayers is much less respectful of your time.
Still, promising game overall. Solid 6/10 as-is, with a tentative 8-9/10 if the devs can follow through to a finished product. Looking forward to future development. Would love recommendations for other games in the genre that scratch that itch.
I’ve been trying Dyson Sphere Project again
Started playing MGS:V again and slowly becoming depressed that there hasn’t come anything better in the last seven years
Re4 remake scratches some of the metal gear itch
Ghostwire: Tokyo
I can see why the triple-A kids didn’t like it. But it’s actually a pretty decent love letter to the very long history of the Japanese horror genre.
I’ve decided to get specifics trophies on Kingdom Hearts 1FM, the no new gear one and the no continue one. If I’m motivated enough, I’ll try the platinum but nothings for sure.
The last faith. I am kind of enjoying it but there are tons of bugs and frame rate drops. Not sure if it is even fixable.
I playing through modded Cyberpunk 2077 which has been fun and a huge improvement from launch. The 2.01 update was great for the game too. Not too interested in buying the DLC though.
Mostly Slime Rancher, a bit of Wreckfest.
