Interesting how everyone, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit seem to try to to squeeze more money out of their platforms by making themselves shittier.
And it’s infuriating how so many charities, organizations, municipal governments, teams, and groups continue to use ONLY social media to post updates.
I refuse to join Facebook to see what’s happening around town or to read updates from our local police department on Twitter.
Talk about failing accessibility! These platforms should be the last place to post information and updates. It’s time to go back to when the internet actually worked properly.
Where I live, everyone is just barely scraping by. 15 households all pooling our resources for one internet utility account shared amongst us.
People aren’t able to pay for any of the content the companies you mention want to charge for. It’s not even a choice. They’ll just go without or use alternatives.
Or maybe thats just a bonus side effect of these monetization plans: keeping the poor out.
Edit: actually there’s only 9 of us sharing the cost, with the whole block sharing the wifi…
Sorry to hear that, I genuinely hope the situation you experience improves soon. While I agree poorer people are also disadvantaged here, I do not think that this particular instance is keeping the poor out. I think it is about gathering more data of people. In fact, many free services harvest data from people who cannot afford / do not want to pay for non/less data hoarding services (email, search, vpn, etc).
No, nitter seems to be dead
they do that because people are more aware of how to protect their privacy and the stance free because you are the product is no longer profitable. People taking care of their privacy in mass is a good sign for humanity :)

Yeah I’m not saying that out loud.
Yeah but who cares? Twitter was dead the second Elon bought it and we all knew it.
New articles will still reference tweets, as people and communities are still engaging on there. You can view an embedded tweet in an article, but you can’t read any of the replies to the tweet nor view the tweet as a whole.
let’s see how well this works out for ol musky.
i foresee continued use of screenshots, if not even more so than before.
I mean sure if they want even less interactions with their platform go for it. When i see twitter links now after clicking them and not being able to see, ill just avoid clicking them alltogether.
