Sure, China’s got a lot of really cool stuff about it that would be awesome to see. But with the wealth of other countries around the world not operating as full on dictatorships, I’m gonna hard pass on visiting until they sort their shit out (so probably never)
I like how they’ve suddenly realized that they’ve made a bad name for themselves around the world by being righteous dickheads so all of a sudden they’re softening their rhetoric and expecting everyone to buy it.
The fact that this comment I’ve made alone might be grounds for arrest there is all that needs saying about it.
First of all you are absolutely spot on. It all depends, people are losing jobs / getting canceled for talking against Israel’s atrocities.

Then why is it that travelling to China specifically is so morally bad, but other countries like the US are fine?
It’s a dictatorship and there’s plenty of awesome countries that are not dictatorships which I haven’t had a chance to visit yet.
I didn’t say anything was more or less morally bad. I just have zero interest in visiting countries that rank so poorly on freedom indexes and I don’t care if said countries waive visa requirements.
I’m asking why one dictatorship is better than another though.

And if you want to go in on it, every country does. Every country has the ability to order ISPs to block certain websites deemed illegal. Sometimes the government doesn’t even have to do it and providers on their own block certain sites.

Das finde ich auch und da geht es um zwei Grenzübergange nach Xinjiang und nicht um China-Einreisen generell.
Anekdotisch (was witzig ist im Rahmen deines Nutzernames) weiß ich von mehreren (sehr) großen deutschen und europäischen Firmen die für bestimmte Angestellten-Gruppen die Policy haben keine oder nur komplett verschlüsselte Laptops mit nach China zu nehmen.
Das halte ich für sehr sinnvoll, hat aber nichts mit der Behauptung zu tun, dass alle Touristen gezwungen werden würden, Spionagesoftware zu installieren.
Ist doch in Deutschland auch so: keine Sim-Karte ohne Ausweiserfassung und -prüfung; kein Ausweis ohne die Erfassung und Verknüpfung der biometrischen Daten deines Gesichts - ohne dabei jetzt den chinesischen Überwachungsstaat schönreden zu wollen
Ja ne muss nicht. Vorallem hab ich jetzt nicht so lust auf die Luftverschmutzung… oder eine Lebensmittelvergiftung.
Genau die dreckigen Chinesen die nur fekalien fressen! Da will man doch nicht hin. Und dann bekommt man auch noch neue krankheiten von diesen dreckigen Chinesen!

Es gibt ja bekanntlich kein China ausherhalbs der großen Städte. Außerdem top aktuell deine Quelle. Dabei gebe ich ja zu, dass die großen Städte sehr verschmutzt sind, doch hat sich das auch etwas verbessert (doch immernoch scheiße).

Gar nicht so weit daneben, denn Schätzungen gehen davon aus, dass 10% allen Brat-Öls in China wiederaufbereitete Fettbatzen aus der Kanalisation sind (sog. gutter oil).
Jap, ich weiß davon, deswegen habe ich es so formuliert. Diese Aussagen haben kernwahrheiten. Das Problem ist jetzt aber komplett zu verallgemeinern und so zu tun als ob es Gewissheiten sind. China ist ein recht großes Land und manchen Teilen auch noch divers.
Und ich bin nicht pro China und sehe gute legitime Gründe nicht dort einreisen zu wollen, doch diese verallgemeinerung geht mir doch auf den Keks.
