I know that many of us already know this, but it should repeated as often as needed.
we are the network – the network is us.
social is nothing without the interactions that we create. reddit was just a place; a place that, because of a centralized power dynamic, abused us all.
we have are now at a cultural juncture, an opportunity to bring back what each of us knows to be true. our interactions do not need to capitalized, marketed and sold.
we are not products. we are the network.
please, find communities that even mildly interest you or catch you eye, join them and comment on posts.
just had this conversatin with the wife and she is joining Lemmy to start her own federated social journey.

Great sentiment. I like it!
Actually it’s more than murica 😡😡
As for capitalized, I would 100% pay for a well crafted client like Apollo again. That was reasonable.
If my money is going to allow someone to focus on the product development, I’m fine with that.
If the user isn’t the priority, then I’m out.
I would tend to agree, but very few centralized services remain “user focused” in a way that actually benefits the user. the people, almost invariably, becomes the product.
no amount of direct monitization of the person (pay for service, apps, etc) seems to compete with selling access to that person over and over again. eventually selling access to the person becomes the whole purpose of the service.
