They’re at the right price for an impulse buy but it’ll be another month or two before I move so I don’t have HA set up. I know other IKEA zigbee stuff works fine, but will these new ones?

They should. It’s the same protocol right?

All of the ikea Zigbee devices I’ve bought work seamlessly in HA and usually have custom blueprints made by the community.

Yeah (thought they only work with the newer IKEA controller), I just wasn’t sure if new drivers had to be written or if they’d pair “out of the box”

The new hub requirement seems very odd, the newer hub I believe supports thread so maybe these are not zigbee devices but thread devices.

Could be! I don’t know much about threads but on the IKEA page it says

All three smart sensors are based on the Zigbee software.

I don’t know what to believe!

There’s a lot of aqara “zigbee” stuff that just doesn’t work properly, even though it’s the same protocol. Also smart electric meters that have zigbee but not in a way that’s useful, just as another example

I’ll second this. All my aqara stuff works just fine.

The aqara endpoints I have are solid. But one aqara mains powered relay is causing delays with an aqara door sensor when connected to it. Aqara implemented some strange stuff in some of their zigbee devices
