Referring to the Beehaw instance, I’ve noticed a few users from World on and off (myself included but that was mainly due to a massive falling out with the admins over something private)
Have offhandedly mentioned they either have an issue with Beehaw, or don’t like beehaw in some capacity. I was wondering why that was, or if it’s just a very small number of people that don’t like them and I just happened to see only a few.
First of all. There is no bad blood of any kind between the admins of both instances.
Beehaw basically has a very strict content policy and they don’t federate with instances that have open registration. You can find their reasoning in this thread.
I’m sure that when more mod/admin tools become available we can have another talk.
It seems that the Beehaw take the idea of a moderated community free from certain influences quite seriously and chose to defederate from some lemmy instances that were open to bot abuse and certain political beliefs (I think). The idea is to be proactive until better moderation tools are available. But some other instances seem to see the Beehaw admins as snooty or elitists. I could have it wrong but that’s my current impression.
There’s no hard feelings between beehaw and lemmy.world in general.
There are some people that don’t like them but I think it’s within normal interactions among human beings, you don’t like everyone and you can’t expect everyone to like you.
I personally don’t have any issue with them, I understand what they’re trying to do and I respect their choices, even if I’m not their target audience.
