Most cities have a law where a car can only sit for X amount of days. It has to be moved occasionally.

If someone calls in an abandoned vehicle, they’ll put a tag under the wiper blade saying they’ll fine/tow on date that is X days from now and they might put a white chalk mark on the tire so they can tell if it’s moved and parked in the exact spot again

If it hasn’t moved after X days from the notice then it gets towed.

Edit: this is for parking on a public street. Parking in your driveway/garage/private spot does not have these restrictions.

It’s considered abandoned if it hasn’t moved in X days. Simply park 5 ft away and you’re good. No ticket or tow.

The countdown starts from the time the vehicle has a tag put on the window.

They don’t just come and tow cars cause someone called in to report an abandoned vehicle.

Vehicles that show signs of abandonment (damage to the vehicle, missing parts, missing or expired tags or registration) may be marked for towing upon inspection by a traffic enforcement officer; residents may request a vehicle be inspected by using 311. Once a vehicle is deemed abandoned, a 48-hour warning will be issued; if the vehicle has not been moved from the location, it will be towed.

TIL if you chalk and sticker someone’s car you can just take it afterwards. Wow. Lifehack.

Why is the go-to option to disrupt people’s lives? If you have too much of a population owning vehicles that’s causing overcrowding you shouldn’t be looking to apply a bandaid to such a serious issue. Look into making it possible to live in your city without needing such an expensive purchase, give people the ability to effortlessly travel to the places they need to go with the capability to move out hases and groceries.

Seriously, how far do people really end up driving that they need to own a car instead of renting when the real need arises?

Looks like it has front end damage, maybe wasn’t properly driveable after an accident. It’s a bit of a racket though, I don’t love those “must move cars every 48hr” rules, one should be able to park their car for like 2 weeks at least before anyone gets in a huff, excuse me for not driving all the time

Even if it’s broken, it’s still someone’s property

So you’re just gonna drag it up the bed? With the front drive wheels locked by the parking gear or possibly reverse gear if it’s a stick?

I mean from here it looks like it’s missing a front bumper. Don’t think they are worried about damage.
