WINNER: SCREECH OWL 80-38

These are some very opposite owls from opposite parts of the world!

Blakiston’s Fish Owl, the world’s largest owl, has been impressive thus far. First, it eliminated the Tawny Owl. After that, it squeaked out a victory over the Goth-inspired Sooty Owls. Will this Japanese Kaiju be able to overpower such a universally loved owl like the Screech Owl?

Great camo, small round packaging, a beautiful tree bark patterns, a sweet, yet sulky expression with just enough humor, a beautiful singing voice, and devilish but innocent looking horns. This is the Screech Owl. It’s a lot to live squeezed into a tiny, plump package. Will this little darling be able to hold out against BFO?

We have a raspberry pi set up to identify birds by sound and it always thinks any siren is an Eastern Screech Owl. 😂

Had to vote for this little siren owl, lol.

        It is one fine owl!

Everyone that doesn’t win is still going to show up on the regular rotation once this is over. I’m glad we were able to get done awareness but up around him.

He needs that floof where he lives, especially splashing around with the fishes!

Screech Owl is such a great owl, but I’m fully committed to BFO’s cause by now. They’re just so glorious and perfect as the representative of the Superbowl community. Go BFO! (Image from a video geniously called “Blakiston’s Fish Owl” by Ray H)

He didn’t get to be an indigenous god for nothing!

So THAT’S what BFO stands for? I knew it standing for Big Fucking Owl was highly unrealistic, but gotta admit I’m still a little disappointed…

I am proud of myself for coming up with that new name!

BFO stands for everything good, so for Big F’n Owl too. Also, they are goong to rename him soon, so maybe Big F’n Owl will be the official name soon (probably not though).

Only very few times in my life have I been more eager to sign any petition, let alone one that probably doesn’t exist 😄

If it’s anything like any other bureaucracy making changes, you still have time to join the Audubon Society!

I am curious if they will. The town here is named Audubon as well, so that makes it a little strange to change it and not everything else. They probably should change it all, but that is probably much more involved than just changing the name of one thing.

I vote for the BFO because he deserve more love than that but would have the score been secret, I would have not choose.

I hope Lemmy gets proper polling features by next year. This has worked out better than expected though, but I’d be curious to see if hiding the numbers would have made a difference. I feel it may have benefitted some underdogs though, which is good.

I do hope the development keeps going here. Everything already seems much improved from how it was back in the summer. The apps and Lemmy itself are both more useful and robust.
