    good for the economy

You know, there are people out there who would suggest that how “good” an economy is should be measured by how well everyone’s needs are cared for while minimizing the amount of labor expenditure needed.

But sure, lets keep going with the ‘line go up without any consideration of quality of life’ definition since it’s working so well for the oligarchs.

I was going to take the time to write a biting riposte just like this, but I, unlike some people, know that it’s my patriotic duty to get to work for this Billionaire Payday"economy" and work until I die. This country is built on, for, and by everyone agreeing that if you aren’t working or buying, preferably both, you better get busy dying. After all, how can I ever hope to be happy unless our benevolent overlords can vacation on Mars? So, put down that damn infernal computer machine, and get out there and buy, buy, buy. We can’t have profits down this quarter, or they’ll ration our Brawndo! And never forget, it’s all very different from slavery, because we are paid, have freedomprofits, and healthcare…Uh, well, it is very, very, different. Anyways, 'Murica!!! GET BACK TO WORK!!!

How surprising: the CEO who runs the company that owns Axios Media, the richest man in Georgia, has his media outlet write why slaving away in your elder years is “good for the economy”.

I’ve seen a lot of articles lately telling powerless peasants they should be grateful to work until they’re dead.

It disgusts me that we just go along.

The people suffering right now are the boomers who should be retiring but can’t because they made bad political decisions.

In 10 years, it will be Gen X.

In 25 years it will bd Millenials. I don’t expect us to “go along” once the boomers are gone.

“More and more drones remain absolutely dependent on my goodwill for their basic survival needs. There is no escape until death. My iron grip will soon encase them all from birth to their miserable demise, they will be in my power, under my control alone!”

“Uh, are you sure that this is what you want printed, sir?”

“Ugh, fine, make it palatable to the peons, if you must.”

Not a lot of reporting in that article. Doesn’t say if older americans are working because they don’t want to retire, can’t retire, or don’t have anything else to do.

Based on the other recent article saying suicides are up among older men, I’d venture to guess that older americans are working more because that’s all they do, few hobbies, few close friends, few close relatives.

Another headline where “the economy” means “rich people’s yacht money.”

      Always has.

Never forget what happened when workers gained leverage against their employers not long ago. The Fed panicked and pulled economic levers to increase layoffs to… get this… save the economy.

When employees having any leverage with employers is literally considered an economic crisis, and the most desirable “solution” to those in power is to incentivize employers to lay off laborers, that should tell you all you need to know about whether it’s interests and yours align.

The fed exists to make meaningful private shareholders richer at everyone else’s expense, full stop.

It’d be cool if I could filter out any headline on the internet that ends with “here’s why”

I filtered out headlines with “here’s why” and THIS happened!

(my personal least favorite headline ending)

Filtering out information based on a couple of key words can lead to gaps in knowledge — here’s why
