Whilst Lemmy is growing and trying to compete in content against the goliath that is reddit it needs to be reposted so to speak. I’m not about taking original or potentially original posts and claiming them as my own so it’s good practice to source the location of the original.

We are competing with a platform that has existed since 2005, it’s no easy task. You may find posts that are original posts. Just again best practice. Source the original.

Just credit the reddit user, that’s all you need. If anyone really cares they can go to reddit and look at their profile. That way you can still give credit where credit is due, and not increase reddit foot traffic.

In fairness, I have just been doing this when mildly infuriating was born (5 days ago) and I want to ensure I am doing enough in terms of respecting the original poster. It is a good suggestion though.

I guess a template of “Repost from [username] on [insert website]” would do fine." Good comment!

I like how so far it seems people here are less aggressive and more willing to work together towards a goal that satisfies both parties rather than have a big dick swinging contest and get nowhere. Good job Lemmy.

I would rather provide a link/credit to where I found it. Unfortunately reddit is a place that incentivises and encourages people to repost without care/credit to the original. It isn’t much different to 9gag, or any other website either to be honest.

This is a moral choice but I don’t think there is a right answer here. In fighting isn’t very productive either way. This is the most I’ll probably discuss it here. I’m listening to the advice given to me by @[email protected] because I think it’s a good balance.

I want to make lemmy & the fediverse the best it can be and not follow in the footsteps of other platforms. Reddit specifically but not limited to reddit.

I respect your opinion, but given the context I am using it I disagree.

To get people you need content and to get content you need people. Work takes priority over scouring my local town for unique content. Shit just doesn’t work like that

I have produced plenty of OP here too as well as reposts. This is just the nature of the internet nowadays, if they aren’t entertained they leave

        That didn’t really happen tho.

The problem with 3rd class passenger not getting to the lifeboats was that the boat deck was accessible to I class, II class and ships crew. The III class folks were completely unfamiliar with that part of the ship (and parts leading to boat deck - the whole superstructure). At first some officers were mentioned to have enforced class segregation between areas but that was also a time when people went back to their cabins because “this ship is unsinkable, nothing bad will happen”. When it became clear the ship is doomed the III class did reach the boat deck but already most life boats were launched.

This is almost certainly because of the social media trend to destroy public bathrooms. Not “teehee I pulled out a lot of toilet paper” but “I body slammed the air dryer until it broke off.”

being an adult now, it’s so weird seeing how schools were so overly punitive. why not treat kids decently like in college early on? even in kingergarten i’d understand ‘you can use the bathroom now if you want but either way you have to learn the alphabet’

Because students take advantage (i mean we all did im one way or another). The younger the kids, the more parents (and the law) treat the school as responsible for the student and their supervision. That being said, in my opinion access to a bathroom is a basic human right.

What kind of stuff did your classmates get up to? I’m from Europe and we don’t have hall passes or gates at doors (etc.) and the students don’t get up to bad stuff. The worst I’ve seen is wet toilet paper on the walls. Or is this some kind of an “If you’re treated like a prisoner, you will act like a prisoner” kind of thing?

Extremely charitable guess: they want it to be open to prevent the spread of germs slightly (so nobody has to touch a door), but need the option of closing it after school hours to prevent vandalism.

This started happening in my high school a few years ago, Everyone seems to think that they did it to make it easier to catch people doing weed by closing half of the bathrooms at any given time. It’s super annoying because the bathroom closest to my classes are always the ones to be locked for some reason so I have to walk across the entire school (the school is really big) to get to an open bathroom and when I do get there it’s usually so dirty and crowded that it’s almost unusable.

If thats the case I think someone needs to call the fire marshal. No way I’d feel safe in a building which could lock me in like that.

Most lecture halls don’t usually lock you in though. This gate appears to require a key both directions.
