While uploading videos to Lemmy is not supported yet, what is an easy alternative solution to share videos on Lemmy? I don’t want to use YouTube, it should be easy to use and work on Lemmy-UI (if possible).

I think the most spiritually correct solution would be to use PeerTube considering that it’s also a federated system and therefore can interact nicely with Lemmy.

There should be a solution to allow native video uploads.

The problem with native video support is that those videos would have to be hosted by the lemmy instance. That’s a ton of data and bandwidth, so I’m not sure how feasible it would be. Certainly it would be much more expensive.

Exactly. The Brazilian instance recently made a post about limiting the size of image uploads. It seems to be a common denominator among instances, but they explained some things nicely. Basically, the reason being that images eat up resources FAST.

Videos would be a much bigger problem, not only eating up storage space, but also a lot of throughput.

YouTube is still the king. Hell, looks like they are responsible for like 20% of internet traffic in the planet. That kind of infrastructure is not for everyone.
