I’ve really enjoyed seeing this sub grow so much these past few weeks. I’m looking forward to seeing it continue to grow!

I like the small community vibe. It’s like early reddit before all the dickheads showed up. Everyone here is respectful and nice.

Hey hey, I’m a dickhead. I guess I showed up early

The thing I missed about the old r/NBA is the actually play highlights rather than the plethora of Twitter posts !

True, and people discussed the game more, instead of karma farming memes and shitposts

I avoided /r/nba a lot over the years sticking to my Heat sub, but it’s a nice respectful community here so far.

Did /r/NBA mods even show support for the blackout? It’s one of reddit’s most popular subs, and I wouldn’t dare moderate such community without mod tools…

Yeah the users were very pissed from what I saw. To be honest that sub was getting pretty toxic and I was on it for over a decade. It’s nice to come out to a smaller community, reminds me of the old days.

The responses to the blackout on /r/NBA are a big part of what convinced me that it was time to move on. It was so dismissive and toxic.

Yeah hah I was a lurker there. I’ve just been getting into it really, so I don’t know ball super well and didn’t want to get post roasted for my ignorant takes lol. And the hate on “all the pussies that care so much about reddit” made me feel bad for the mods cus they probably cared (with good cause) and they deserved to make their own choice without getting shit on about it.

I think the mods let the community decide and it was like 55/45 for it… They ended up doing the 2 day protest, but was right back up and running after the 2 days. I’m not surprised that many people were against protesting, as most those people were casual users and probably only used r/NBA and didn’t visit the other subs.

Glad it’s growing! The more people we have the more content. I just hope it doesn’t ask devolve into commenting the same damn pastas again and again.

Sources: ConditionOverload is beside himself. Browsing around !nba begging (thru posts) that copypasta is kept to a minimum

I thought I’d miss the void that r/nba left but this has grown (and keeps growing) as a community. Been trying to do my part by being much more active than I was on Reddit.

That’s awesome. I’m thankful for all those free agency updates as I didn’t have to look elsewhere.

Is there any kind of bot we can program to automatically post all tweets from Shams and Woj? They’re almost always newsworthy and worth discussing anyway. I’m worried we don’t have enough users to cover all their tweets here.

That would be amazing. I’m sure it can be done, or maybe even a bot that posts updates from the Shams and Woj Mastodon accounts which mirror their twitters. That way it minimizes API calls to Twitter (since that seems to be a limiting factor as of this week) and also would still allow people without a Twitter account to still click through into the post.

It’s a fun community to be a part of! Off topic question, which apps are you all using? I’m using connect for lemmy and I like the layout a lot but it has a lot of connection issues. May not be the app though.

I’ve been using the browser as a light app on Android. Surprisingly good browser experience, but will move to app once Boost and Sync get their apps out for lemmy.
