I wish they elaborated there lol. The BBC source seems to go to a 404 for me…
The modern ones are cast, but last time I checked still require some force to break the slices off their central sprue / core. What were the older ones you’re referring to if they weren’t cast like that? Now I am curious lol.

Command it to flicker mysteriously when someone arrives / walks past (perhaps determined by a new Bluetooth device like a phone being seen with a signal strength above some threshold?). Or, set up an anemometer. On nights with dramatic weather, as the wind gusts you can trigger spooky flickering. Or via lightning strike data off the internet.
I’m not sure why my mind went to making your house haunted, but there you go…
Yep, it’s break-apart slices of chocolate. You knock it on a table and they separate. I used to like them, and either I can’t find the brand I used to get or my tastes have changed, because the ones I have tried in the past few years just aren’t good.
(I do like orange + chocolate still, in a chocolate bar!)

“It will persist beyond 2026. No no no, that’s not a prediction, it’s a promise!”

They just don’t do bank robberies like they used to…

For any parents trying to find their new baby, starting the search in Asia seems like a good strategy! Book a flight immediately after birth.

… Good for that pilot? I’m more upset by people who make billions per year. The pilot makes his money doing his job, not screwing over everyone on earth.

Well… since “we” could be interpreted to include Billy Joel and the listener… that’s two more!

wish my PC could do that… so cool…

Also, supplying electricity to fast moving ground vehicles isn’t new, just look at… every high speed rail system ever…

Yeah, this sounds stupid, and I’m worried about the amount of power wasted by induction charging. Anyone who’s wirelessly charged a phone knows it can get quite hot; that’s wasted energy. And Indiana’s generation is still mostly natural gas and coal, so at some point, with enough losses in transmission and charging, you’ll end up with a higher-carbon vehicle than a diesel truck…
I am not sure what that point is, but the efficiency of charging is an important consideration in my mind.
They also made balloons!

unfortunately, that won’t necessarily prevent you from being price gouged. the stores themselves are algorithmically varying prices, so even with no middleman you can get screwed. (I remember Kroger was starting that a while back for example, they of course described it as targeted discounts).
obviously stuff like instacart etc. just add another layer of upcharge, so direct is cheaper in general

the article mentions 69 being skipped as well. I assume it’s pretty simple, just check it against the list and increment until it’s valid.
int getNextOrderNumber(int currentNumber) {
currentNumber++;
while(isBanned(currentNumber)) {
currentNumber++;
}
return currentNumber;
}
where bool isBanned(int orderNumber) simply checks the order number against the banned list and returns true if it’s not allowed.
I long for the utopian future where I call customer support and a helpful, knowledgeable shrimp picks up the phone instead of some AI crap that doesn’t understand what I’m asking.
thanks!
