RetroGradeBEto World News•EU accuses Google and Apple of breaking its rules, risking Trump clashEnglish24·29 days agoAs much as i agree with the commission on this, the fact that there is no credible alternative to these US-based systems is a failure on our part.
It’s good we can force foreign powers to obey to our laws, it would be better if we have our own systems to compete.
Not in the first few years of the tech, too risky for my taste.
RetroGradeBEto BuyFromEU@europe.pub•Conclusions after months trying to buy from EUEnglish2·1 month agoYou are almost in exactly the same boat as I am, the biggest bottleneck is consumer tech. I’ll definitely keep my iPhone, but have switched for all my subscriptions to European alternatives. (Pcloud for cloud storage, Surfshark for VPN) Installed Linux on my pc instead of Windows. Unfortunately, some services like Whatsapp are difficult to get rid off.
RetroGradeBEto World News•Former US general advises Switzerland to prepare for war.English1851·1 month agoAs bad as it sounds, if our European leaders can get their head out of their collective US-aligned asses, it could finally be a push to a more cohesive EU-defence policy that is not dependant on US logistics and firepower.
We have allowed ourselves to be way to complacent for far too long.
RetroGradeBEto Ask Lemmy•Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?12·1 year agoI never really enjoyed his interview style, granted I only watched some of the later episodes but it never really got me. Quite monotone voice and very rehearsed feeling questions.
I’m trying to reduce my car usage for my 40 km daily commute, and it also has helped me a lot in the health department.
So far i’m averaging two or three times a week.
Take a break from social media/news if you can, I know it’s not going to solve everything immediately but it might help. I was dealing with a bad streak, and I have quit most social media like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit or only use sanitised media like Lemmy.
There are a lot of good hearts in this world, unfortunately a lot of media are more likely to cover the rot.
RetroGradeBEto Ask Lemmy•What band, artist, or song do you enjoy listening to that is widely disliked?5·2 years agoNickelback is good, especially the early music. Imagine Dragons is similar in that they both are kinda hated because their music is really mainstream and accessible, which is in my opinion a pretty weird reason to hate the bands.
RetroGradeBEto Ask Lemmy•Do you think millennials who grew up with the early Internet and home computers will be as bad with future technology as boomers are with current technology?34·2 years agoTechnology for new generations is really dumbed down, unless you want to learn and get into the weeds deliberately. Millennials know how to work around multiple operating systems and generally also learned how to troubleshoot (of course, there are a lot of millennials who aren’t interested in tech as well). Zoomers will definitely have their own generation specific stuff they will know much better than any other generation.
I like to think every generation has it own knowledge and speciality, and bringing those together is when we as a species grow and advance.
RetroGradeBEto Technology•HW News - Linus Tech Tips' Terrible Response, ESMC, & Starfield x AMD GPUsEnglish181·2 years agoThis is exactly the problem LTT is having, thinking they know better then the consumer. If the only metric is value/money then Apple, Ferrari , Hermes, etc… Would not exist.
They really need to take a step back and rearrange their priorities as a company.
Still can’t really see the appeal for these kind of phones, at least with the fold you can have a small tablet at your convenience.
Love the tech, but personally i’m not really convinced.
Could be even worse now, because in the 2008 financial crisis the US government was actively combatting the crisis by putting trillions of dollars in the economy. In this case it’s the US gov driving the madness.
