Ask Science•If you were stationary, and talking to someone moving at lightspeed, would they appear to be speaking in slow motion due to time dilation?English
3·15 hours agoYes. Distant galaxies that are moving away from us at relativistic speeds exhibit measurable time dilation in their inner workings.
How would you even measure time dilation in a distant galaxy? Consider standard candles like 1a supernova, which explode with near uniform power. These supernova can be observed from intergalactic distances. Gather data and record the times for various supernova explosions. You’ll find that the same types of explosions take longer in more distant galacies, and that the extra time is exactly what relativity predicts.

World News•‘We will not survive’: Toyota, Honda and Ford CEOs issue chilling warning about China — and it could hit your portfolioEnglish
51·15 hours agoYou think they have no employees at all? BYD had over five times the employees than Ford! And subsidies? In the US, we bailed out our auto sector during the Great Recession and heavily subsidize our auto sector via tariffs. Plus no car plant had been built in a generation without heavy state and local tax breaks and subsidies.
Seriously. What are you smoking? Cause I want some.

101·15 hours agoPeople always point out that China “isn’t really a Communist country.” And while they certainly are different from the days of Mao, they forget that, from the beginning, the goal was to treat the market economy as a means to an end. The CCP values market economics because it allowed China to quickly industrialize. They don’t value capitalism for its own sake; they view it as a necessary evil.
Because of this, they’re able to do the kind of long term industrial planning that is unthinkable in the US. And there’s ultimately likely to be a lot less resistance to mass automation in China than in the US. If the state owns all the automated factories and distributes their goods fairly to all, why oppose automation? Automation is only a bad thing if it represents losing your livelihood, your method for keeping a roof over your head.
Then the goal should be to make paying low wages unprofitable. If enough warehouses burn, eventually insurance companies will consider warehouses that pay poverty wages to be uninsurable.
Yes, you can pretend that these costs can just be past on to consumers, but prices are already set as high as the market will bear. They can’t raise prices without eating into demand. If it was possible to easily raise prices and still have their goods sell, those prices would have already been raised.
The historical union movements that created real change were concurrent with campaigns of arson and violence. Some bosses had to have their head caved in with a lead pipe before they agreed to bargain with the union.

11·1 day agoThrow enough fat at a problem and you can solve it.
We’re talking about people who openly commit multiple felonies on a daily basis. They’re openly practicing mass bribery and insider trading. They routinely murder random civilians in the Caribbean. They’ve been openly flaunting the law on Congressional appropriations from day one. They are a criminal organization.
Faking an assassination is a minor item on their already extensive rap sheet. When they’ve already committed dozens of murders, what’s a fake assassination at that point?
The truth is lemmy really does have a misogyny problem. The progressive zeitgeist is mostly on economic matters.
