  • Penn Gilette has always seemed to be driven by a level of honesty and compassion and valued the freedom to choose where to direct that compassion. I think earlier on he viewed other libertarians as having the same level of honest compassion as he does but over time it’s become more and more clear that libertarians are overwhelmingly selfish rich white guys who don’t want to be called Repuiblicans.

I mean in the early 2000s he was calling bullshit on the hysteria over the vaccine autism link saying the alternative of kids dying to preventable diseases is so much worse. He even gave the tenuous link a benefit of the doubt and accepted that even if they did cause autism,t he alternative is so much worse.

Opsec is more about the processes of confirming that you know exactly where important information is and knowing there are as few potential leaks and risks to that information getting into unintended hands. Saying you’ve got clean opsec is about confirming that you’ve gone through the proper steps to keep communications secret.

Personally I’ve called for opsec before with different friend groups when different crises have arisen and I need a group of people to help another out who’s in a bad mental state without tipping them off to things that might become dangerous.

  • Cool we both agree it’s bad, now can we agree that the dems plans of “ok i guess we’ll slightly slow down the shipment of weapons to Israel but still honor the preexisting treaties we made with them” is not the same as “we’re going to send even more weapons and turn the Gaza Strip into a gilded Trumpland.”

As for why people come out when people people criticize dems who else can even remotely get elected into the presidency? Jill “rubs shoulders with Putin at a fancy dinner” Stein of the deeply unserious “we’re only going to run one candidate for presidency and nowhere else, it’s not like Congress has to pass legislation and the House controls the budget” Green Party? Lmao that’s a good joke.

Whatever “imma deregulated everything and abolish age of consent” joke of a candidate of the libertarians? Lmao the solution to our problems with capitalism is even more capitalism!

The nonexistent leftist party and their imaginary radical leftist candidate who idolized Stalin a bit too much? The jokes keep coming.

If it’s held at a slightly lower temp for longer it can achieve the same bacterial reduction the 145F the usda recommends, its the instant bacterial death time. Inctheory if held at temp for long enough it would be safe to eat. It’s still a stupid method but technically viable.

  • I think the end of the torrent of ai slop is the better thing at the moment. I don’t hate the underlying concept behind copyright, protect the people who create a thing for a limited amount of time. The problem is when those limits are lobbied to be extended over and over and the laws are used as a bludgeon by corporations against individuals.

If I were to fix copyright to something equitable:

    1. Copyrights must be held by a singular person, no corporations, no estates, no organizations, none of that. If an elderly creator dies while in control of a copyright then it goes to next of kin until it expires. If corporations want protection for logos and corporate designs, that’s what a trademark is for.

    2. copyrights last for 30 years, that’s plenty of time to profit off of a work, but not so long that multiple generations lose out on the creative potential of that work being in the societal consciousness.

    3. Copyright damages cannot be calculated by some theoretical loss of profits to the copyrifht holder. The damages are some significant portion of revenue made by the offending party.

  • Fun bit of additional trivia about him, he was injured, shot in the leg while serving on the American side. After his defection, there is a likely apocryphal tale where he captured some Americans and asked what would happen if the situation were reversed. He was told his leg would get full burial honors and the rest of him would be hanged for treason. Funny enough there is a memorial of a leg at Saratoga for the injury he sustained and his importance at the battles in Saratoga but has nothing mentioning his name or the rest of his body. Which honestly is a level of pettiness to aspire to.

Dems have absolutely been failing to be an effective political party, but good lord I’d rather have the milquetoast incompetency on democratic control of the government than this abaolute shitshow that Republicans have been running for the last… God it’s only been a month and a half since the inauguration.

  • Just to add onto this, because Wakefield’s conflict of interest is one facet of the stupidity of the entire thing. Check out H.Bomberguy’s video about the whole thing, the poorly done experiment, the inconclusive research, the bone marrow autism cure guy, and how we went from “there is maybe possibly some interaction between some chemical in the vsccine and some as of yet unknown and undescribed connection between the brain and gut this chemical that may or may not have some impact on autism more research is needed,” to “vaccines are 100% the cause of autism”
