politics •Judge dismisses cases against James Comey and Letitia James after finding prosecutor was unlawfully appointed
3·30 days agoFair. But even though this is clearly a politically motivated prosecution, I’d rather see the system operate the way it’s supposed to. The prosecutor shouldn’t be able to cut corners, and the judge shouldn’t take liberties.
If Halligan is the caliber of lawyer that Trump can get to bring these cases, then I think James will be fine.

politics •Judge dismisses cases against James Comey and Letitia James after finding prosecutor was unlawfully appointed
10·1 month agoDisagree. The answer is to dismiss without prejudice. The issue before the judge was, at its heart, whether the prosecutor had the legal authority to bring the indictment. The answer was no. As such, it’s not up to the court to tell the government they cannot bring the case again in a proper manner from qualified prosecutor.
The beauty of the decision is that – by issuing the order in this manner – the government is screwed anyway because (unless they successfully appeal this decision) the statute of limitations has tolled on Comey’s case,so even if Halligan or some other prosecutor were able to bring charges, the window to do so has closed. Case dismissed.
This is essentially dismissing with prejudice without prejudice. The case is over, at least for Comey, unless government is successful on appeal.

World News•Ukraine offered “Kremlin peace plan”: Halve armed forces, cede territories, abandon weapons, accept Russian as official languageEnglish
37·1 month agoTrump admires this. He doesnt see Putin as an enemy, but an inspiration. Same reason MBS was welcomed the way he was at the White House, while people like Zelenskyy are mocked and scolded when they arrive.
POTUS has a lot of power to manage relationships and status with other countries. My question is what are these investments and does Trump personally benefit?
Good mix of usability and learning curve. You will need terminal, but that’s never been easier with AI assistants to learn how. Plenty of support for applications or open source workarounds. It also is familiar enough to use rather quickly, but not so much that it feel like a Windows clone. Highly recommend starting with Ubuntu.
This will probably be my move eventually. Phone was a gift so I might keep it for a bit doing the most I can to reduce Google services & tracking. Eventually I’ll sell for a pixel
Thanks! Def going to disable play services and other Google options
I’m not refusing to help myself. I mentioned using alternative App Stores, and I’m aware that options like Graphene are not available. I’m just trying to see if there were other options or practical tips people might know, since I’m new to android. That’s all.
Agreed. I assume that might be part of the reason that Lineage and others aren’t supported. Also, it’s not a particularly huge segment of that market.
Thanks for the information - I’ll take a look at the thread. It is a snapdragon chip, so no mediatek thankfully
I’ll definitely check this out from the thread:
Everyone has their own use case, needs and preferences My thought is that you have the following options - not in any order as you will have your preferences Buy a Pixel and install Graphene See if you can install Linage OS, or buy another phone that can Universal android debloater / ADB (not as tricky as it seems) https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater Search and disable apps you don’t want (limited at best) Install RethinkDNS & Firewall. What did I do? On my Samsung tablet, I used Universal Android Debloater AND run RethinkDNS & Firewall. Not as good as Graphene, but cheap / free and 90% of the same.
Unsure as this is new to me. the phone comes to me next week, so I can’t actually check ATM. It’s a carrier unlocked device, if that means anything.
If this was the end result, why did we even have a shutdown? Weren’t these subsidies the main sticking point?
Classic Schumer… hold out for nothing.

politics •Republicans Claim They Have a Healthcare Plan. But They Won't Tell You What's in It
3·2 months agoThe thing is, they’re not making any promises anymore. They don’t have to. They don’t answer to anyone right now: not voters, not courts, not Congress. It’s blame Dems for the shutdown, while Trump builds a ballroom at the White House and gets gifted a crown by foreign leaders.

politics •Republicans Claim They Have a Healthcare Plan. But They Won't Tell You What's in It
79·2 months agoThey haven’t had a health plan in more than a decade. Trump has claimed since he came down the escalator he’d be releasing his health plan in “two weeks.” The plan is repeal Obamacare. That’s the only plan.

News•Pete Hegseth to set up National Guard ‘quick reaction forces’ to quell unrest across all 50 states
19·2 months agoThis. It’s all in preparation for 2026 and if needed, 2028.
Navidrome/Airsonic with reverse proxy is best. There are lots of Android and iOS apps that stream music from you server. Rather than a reverse proxy, you could try connecting via tailscale maybe? I think at minimum, this would require your phone to be connected to tailscale whenever you want to listen to music. Not sure if this would work or be practical.

Ask Lemmy•Why in western democratic countries Zionism is not banned like Nazism?
151·3 months agoNazism isn’t “banned” per se, at least in the U.S. as the First Amendment does not allow for viewpoint discrimination, however repugnant a viewpoint might be. But the First Amendment does not protect against cultural, social, or other forms of non-government backlash for those who support disgusting ideologies like Nazism.
So there is no “banning” that could take place of the Zionist viewpoint, if we were to consider it on par with Nazism. By and large in the U.S., Zionism and Nazism are not seen as equally repugnant viewpoints in the cultural landscape, hence the difference in how supporters of these views are treated. Hope that makes sense.

Not The Onion•Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’English
31·3 months agoAh yes… the guys with masks, guns, the backing of the president, and virtually unlimited federal government resources are a “vulnerable group”

Says it was filed in 2020. Was it previously under seal? What case is this from?
