  • Mother and child walked in path of bullets

A Mother and her son died in the emergency room after they walked straight into the path of fired bullets. The 92 year old gun owner mixed up the trigger with the safety of his assault rifle and will have to pay a fine of $200. His lawyer announced that they will appeal the judgement, arguing that his client needs the money for new ammunition.

  • Maybe if tech bros hadn’t eroded every last bit of trust someone would listen to their warnings but currently they sound indistinguishable from their usual marketing gobbledygook.

Are LLM’s plateauing and causing a major economic crisis when the bubble bursts or will AGI kill us all? Both seem fun but personally I’d prefer extinction just to be rid of those goddamn human shaped turd bags.

I think it’s mostly about the imbalance. If you struggle with mental health and have very limited capacity for social interaction then you can’t have a bunch of close friends because friendships require effort to maintain them.

In general this is an issue of our time because we have to deal with a lot of information and communication in our day to day life (specifically work) so there’s not much juice/battery/spoons/whatever-you-want-to-call-it left at the end of the day.

My parents would always tell me about how much harder their schedules were when they had to feed cattle and clean barns all day but those are physical tasks. They’d go socialize after all this work because their brains were craving it and ignoring some sore muscles is easier than ignoring a sore brain.

  • Talked to an autistic student today. PC specs are a great interest of his. I told him how a bit more than 10 years ago I was building a PC and didn’t want to pay 300€ for a gtx 970 because that was just too much money for a GPU. Got an R9 280X instead because that was a bit over 200€. My entire build cost me 800€ back then. Good times.

One crypto mania and an AI bubble later and you’d be happy to get a midrange GPU for 600 bucks and you’d suck some dicks behind a dumpster to get 32GB of DDR5 RAM.

He does anthropomorph a bit much. I don’t think AI agents “get desperate”. They just keep hacking away at a problem and we can’t keep up with it. There’s no way of fully containing/monitoring them because the whole point is for them to figure out things we can’t.

I’m not necessarily worried about a singularity or some underground agent civilisation but random collateral damage from AI agents messing around seems almost inevitable.
