I’m sure the parent whose kid or pet gets mowed down by a cyclist going full speed will appreciate that, hey at least it wasn’t more people who got hurt or killed!

Entitled assholes exist behind many modes of transportation. That cars can cause significantly more damage doesn’t make the others less dickish, like this guy:

(and yes, I drive AND cycle AND like to jog too, depending on what the task at- hand is).

That so many have come out screaming in the manner pretty much showcases the “rules for thee but not for me” attitude.

    Whatabout, whatabout, whatabout.

The point is that while cyclists often get pissed off about the lack of safe driving by cars, there are many that similarly seem to ignore the rules of the road as applied to them. That may result in a collision with a vehicle whose driver is driving with proper care - with the cyclist tending to be on the losing end -but also other cyclists, pedestrians, etc.

Getting creamed by a cyclist (or scooter, or skateboarder) going at speed down the sidewalk - or one blowing through an intersection against the lights - is not going to be a minor injury, and I’ve narrowly avoided having myself, my kids, and once my dog get taken out in this manner.

Lately it’s been the battery-powered speakers scooters that are the worst culprits, but the cyclists who often bitch the most about cars are often the ones who seem to ride the least safely around here.

So yeah, not every driver obeys every lease every time, but similarly ignoring laws and being an assist is a good way to increase your own odds of having a bad encounter with one of those drivers, or one of the many others who share the streets and sidewalks.

I think that #2 is a bit subject to the situation. Like somebody’s elderly grandparent who happens to have incontinence issues and dementia should not be mocked because of those.

But the guy who’s leader of a powerful nation, takes constant shots at everyone else, and whose party actively CAMPAIGNED on his opponent being old and infirm… yeah that seems like fair game.

Shitting your pants in the nursing home versus the white house oval office are two very different scenarios

  • Nice. At the moment I’m looking at using ESP based LilyGo devices since they’re fairly cheap and power efficient. The plan is to set them up in places where they can run off solar power during the day and if I get enough people onboard we can relay off each other.

The tech itself seems cheap and effective enough that it might be good for situations like i.e. the protests in MS where having a phone or other device with too much personal info - or subject to tracking -might be less desirable. It could also be good in situations like we’ve seen in other countries wherein the government cuts off Internet access

  • What do you mean, isn’t possible?

There are plenty of subtitle formats that come as a separate file rather than burned or embedded into the video. If whatever software they were using for broadcast selected the wrong sub it’s quite possible, though obviously the timing wouldn’t sync up.

SOP isn’t that far off from TEL so the possibility of selecting the wrong sub file seems to have decent potential

  • On my android the 5-tap activates SoS mode. Holding power for a moment gives the power off and lockdown option, as does pressing power+volup simultaneously. Power+voldown appears to be screenshot.

Most of these options will still keep the phone “active” though so I’m not sure about USB based hacks. If encryption is enabled I believe that forcing a reboot/shutdown means the data on the phone isn’t accessible until after unlocking via PIN/password on boot.

  • Yeah, a lot of people seem to think that these companies built these AI’s by buying or building some sort of special training set/data, when in reality no such thing really existed.

They’ve basically just scraped every bit of data they can. When it comes to big corps, at least some of that data is likely from scraping customer’s data. There’s also scraping of the Internet in general, including sites such as Reddit (which is a big reason why they locked down their API, they wanted to sell that data) but many have also been caught with a ton of 'pirated ’ data from torrents etc.

I’m sure there was a certain amount of sludge in customers’ synced files, and sites like Reddit, but I’d also hazard a guess that the stuff grabbed from torrents etc likely had some truly heinous materials that they simply added to what was getting force-fed to AI, especially the early ones
