minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilinkEnglish7•edit-26 months agoGNU switched to long command switches a while ago. Try bsdtar, it’s still just -h. They kept the short ones for the actual extract/compress commands though, for compatibility reasons I presume.
minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilink2•edit-26 months agoNope, tar spec doesn’t say anything about a help message. The man spec OTOH requires at least syntax documentation for all standard utilities to be present on the system.

on my system 💥GNU switched to long command switches a while ago. Try bsdtar, it’s still just -h.
