Broader adoption of keeping cats safe at home would have large benefits for cat welfare, human health, local wildlife and even the economy. So, should cat owners be required to keep their pets contained to their property?
The answer to the question is obviously “yes”.
You are a monster if you keep your cat indoors, full stop.
then don’t keep cats. solved.
Precisely this.
Are you English by chance?
I speak a dialect of English but reside in New England, an American region. Similar latitude though
The alternative being taking a cat from a shelter and setting it loose on all your neighborhood birds? And that’s just nature and it’s normal, right?
Birds can fly, and cats only eat the slow ones, they’ll be better off as a population in the long run.
A lot of the world is missing natural predators too and prey populations explode as a result (ie wolves and deer)
if it’s so monstrous, pray tell the reasons to let them out to murder wildlife.
Cats eyes face front like people, prey animals are for eatin
By that logic we should bring some hyenas to your house and see who’s prey.
Cats are a foreign invasive species the wildlife in Aus aren’t adapted to. If we’re going to import predators and let them run amok, let’s see you deal with a pack of hyenas around your fam.
Cats are invasive in the US and we deal with it just fine. Clone and reintroduce thylacines and megalania and I’ll consider bringing a couple hyenas on as pets.
No we don’t. Cats kill a massive amount of wildlife in the US.
And before you say cats dont kill the same animals as wolves and mountain lions I’m sure that housecats kill at least a single digit number of deer each decade. They’re getting better at it every day
Wolves and mountain lions would be killing massive amounts too if they were still endemic, it’s not like anywhere has an intact predator structure apart from tiny enclaves in national parks
