So correct me if I’m wrong, but this is meaningless right? This is not within the scope of what the president can do. Him calling for these changes is about as impactful as the owner of a coffee shop doing the same. Congress has no obligation to listen to him on this, let alone take steps to get it done. Just feels ridiculous that we’re cheering this.

People: “Oh boy, Biden is free to flex his power in great ways during these last few months, can’t wait to see what he decides to do!”

Biden: “I wish things could be better…”

    People: “YEA! Get 'em Joe!”

He can’t do it on his own, but if the sitting President calls for, say, a constitutional amendment, it immediately has political credibility and is far more likely to be passed. This is a very, very good thing.

And does Congress have a recent history of following up on things the President calls for?

Yes. Biden managed to get a decent portion of his “Build Back Better” campaign platform passed in his 1st 2 years, when the Democrats (narrowly) held both chambers of Congress.

I don’t know why you are being downvoted for your question. I too have lost faith in Congress and fail to see how this will materialize into any kind of real change. I would love to be wrong though.

I think the difference with your argument is that the guy at the coffee shop isn’t the leader of the free world.

Leader of the western, capitalist, corpo-military complex sure…but “leader of the free world” is a bit hyperbolic no?

Fair. I meant more that we should do away with the term as it’s a propagandized and charged term
