On the evening of May 27, parts of the crowd began to set fire and loot stores like the Target across the street from the precinct.
Obligatory reminder that the first to damage anything was “umbrella man” who smashed an AutoZone window, spray painted “free shit inside”, and the after failing to get anyone else to loot, tried to just walk to a new part of the protest.
He was followed by a man carrying and eating a large pizza, for like 10 minutes at least
Pizza man constantly yelled out to cop after cop that umbrella man was trying to instigate a riot, and had broken into AutoZone, and that everything was on video.
Not a single cop reacted, they stood stone still. Like a comical imitation of a statue.
Later when people suggested Umbrella Man may have been a specific cop, the police said that couldn’t be the case because said cop was out of town and that’s why he wasn’t working or some shit that didn’t actually prove anything.
So later they said they had ID’ed Umbrella Man as a known white supremacist who had been in jail multiple times and belonged to a prison/biker gang.
Yet they refused to ever release his name or press charges.
Anytime someone mentions the looting, take the time to tell people how the protestors weren’t the ones who started it, just like they weren’t the ones to start the violence.
I think it was the Portland one where they claimed protestors set a police station on fire. Once it got to charges we found out it was some rightwing jackasses who pretended they didn’t have a lighter and kept asking people for one saying it was for a bomb. They couldn’t because that’s crazy, so they asked some kid for a lighter without saying why and then he got roped in as an accessory.
Protests have to police themselves because this shit is common. If someone shows up alone acting buckwild, do the right thing and get them out of there. Even if they’re just crazy, you don’t want those people giving cops an excuse.

This is almost always what happens.
