Nah somebody nearby had a gun and the FBI I think shot at that guy. AFAIK nobody actually got shot and they arrested gun dude on the highway later.

Edit - sorry for bad link, still don’t think i can do relative post links. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/27862700

Secret service shot at guy, guy had scoped AK and a GoPro when they shot at him apparently. Now I’m wondering if there was a 4chan post recently.

A Secret Service agent spotted a rifle barrel sticking out of fence and “engaged” with the suspect, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a news conference late Sunday afternoon. The gunman was 300 to 500 yards away from Trump, a Secret Service official said. Law enforcement found an AK-47 style rifle, GoPro and backpacks where the suspect was positioned, Bradshaw said.

        OK, seriously.

AK47s and AR15s are not what you’re looking for here. A nice Sako or Weatherby in 6.5 Creedmoor or .300WSM is a much better choice. And make sure your optics are matching the quality of the gun; we’re looking for .5MOA or better.

        Get your shit together, guys.

          FFS

Thats a 300-500m shot. You could hit him with an off the shelf scoped .22 (effective range140 yd). I’d personally go for a .270 but wonder if he’s worth the extra cost… imagine the headline, killed by one of the smallest calibers in common use.

And why the fuck would you stick the barrel through the fence??

There isn’t a chance that a .22LR would even leave a bruise at 300m, if you managed to deal with the 15 or 20’ of drop at that range. You might as well throw a shoe at him.

Cmon, let’s get these people using the right equipment for the job. Telling people that .22 is going to do the job is just making sure the job doesn’t get done.

            The best kill is overkill.

Look, I like to shit on the 22 as much as the next guy but at 500 yards it absolutely could kill. It’s not the most effective at that range but it will do more than bruise.

Oh crap, you’re right. Effective range 140 yard.

.270 or 30-06 it is then.

Edit: one of our politicians had a dido thrown at him. Ill keep my shoe.

And I guess the entire world grasped in unison: “What a reflex! Too bad, it would be EPIC!”

It’s pretty majestic, all-in-all. Shoe chucker had great aim, Bush was just lucky to have seen that he was up to something and then, yeah, demonstrated pretty good reflexes for his age by evading it. AC 0 vs. shoe projectiles.

You would have to be a incredible shot but a 22 lr will still fuck you up or kill you at that range. It’s always foolish to act like a 22 is a toy round not to be taken seriously.

Yes, I had already edited that information in and linked to a lemmy post that itself contained a link to the AP story before you responded. Thanks though I guess?
