WTF, Trump is the one that actually signed and put into law the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) 2020. He literally put laws into place solidifying cars made in Mexico wouldn’t have tariffs.

The article makes a small references to this:

“Many automakers now build smaller, lower-priced vehicles in Mexico — facilitated by a trade agreement Trump negotiated while president — or in other countries because their profit margins are slim. The lower labor costs help the companies make money on those vehicles.”

The reason cars from Mexico don’t have tariffs today is because of Trump’s law.

I also could have sworn that agreeing not to tarrif each other was part of NAFTA.

It was. His United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) 2020 was a complete replacement. Any changes he wanted were put in place. He chose NOT to put tariffs in place and is not presenting it as someone else is to blame for tariffs not being there. If he’s saying tariffs should be there, and they’re not, he himself is to blame.
