Some reports say 9 dead. I saw somewhere that 72 was the max number of tornadoes within a short time period. Anyone know if these tornadoes are setting a record?

The storm knocked out power to more than 3 million customers, flooded barrier islands, tore the roof off a baseball stadium and toppled a construction crane.

Holy shit, 3 million customers! This is horrible for the companies, will they be ok?

It’s a way of representing how many houses, buildings, and apartments lost power, since 5 people might live in a house, but that’s only one customer.

Yes. I know. And other people have already defended it the same way. Thanks for repeating them.

Do you not read anything before replying to people? You know you can see other comments before saying anything. That’s how sites like these work.

It is not bro’s job to read the comment thread that you created by not understanding how calculations of people effected by power outages work.

I think customers, clients, or accounts is a fair term in this instance. Houses, apartments, condos, businesses, etc. likely contain more than one person. 3 million structures of some form or function are without electricity which could easily have effects on twice that amount of people

Multiple people living in a house or apartment may not be related or in a relationship that would generally be considered a family. Shops, municipal buildings, fire stations, offices, and police stations certainly aren’t families. It’s not reductive, it’s generalizing a large and diverse population to their qualities that are common and relevant to the subject being discussed

Families wouldn’t include the commercial buildings.

They could split the number and say residences and businesses separately. Or combine them and say customers. Especially since that number likely is reported by the power company itself and the company will use customer and everyone else will just be quoting them.
