Package includes Nasams air defence system that Taiwan says will help it in the face of China’s frequent military manoeuvres

China will take “countermeasures” to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the government said, lambasting a $2bn arms sale package by the United States to Taiwan.

The Pentagon on Friday said the United States had approved a potential $2bn arms sale package to Taiwan, including the delivery for the first time to the island of an advanced air defence missile system battle-tested in Ukraine, including advanced surface-to-air missile systems and radar. The deal awaits approval by Congress.

China has over the past five years stepped up its military activities around democratically governed Taiwan, whose government rejects Beijing’s sovereignty claims, including staging a new round of war games earlier this month.

Taiwan’s government welcomed the new arms sale, the 17th of the Biden administration to the island.

I’ve been saying for about 13 months now that Taiwan is the flashpoint of WWIII.

I’ve been saying it will likely be sometime between December 2024 and January 2030, but leaning heavily towards sooner than later.

    We’re still on track.

Edit: like clockwork, my comment on this is always controversial. This time I think most of you just need a dictionary for what “flashpoint” means.

Nah, west Taiwan started it (per usual).

They don’t HAVE to claim ownership of things that aren’t theirs.

Quickly aging despots are the true flashpoint. See Xi, Putin, Trump, Netanyahu

I didn’t say that China didn’t start it?

And those despots haven’t caused WWIII to fully begin, yet.

So, I repeat, I predict that Taiwan will be the flashpoint of WWIII. When China inevitably strikes Taiwan, the US will protect Taiwan. We have too much on the line.

This will cause the necessary entanglements of world alliances to call the then global conflict WWIII.

My point is that Taiwan isnt the flashpoint for ww3, but instead the totalitarian despot from China who wants Taiwan.

Causality traces back to the little bear cartoon looking fuckwit, not the independent nation of Taiwan.

The term “flashpoint” has nothing to do with assigning blame. It just defines an event/place where things kicked off into something way bigger. If WW3 started due to a strike on Taiwan it would be accurate to refer to Taiwan as a flashpoint, because the conflict in Taiwan would be the origin. I don’t see how any of that takes away from China being the aggressor, or why the conflict would happen.

I get wanting to make it clear China is the problem here, I agree, but we have terms that refer to things objectively for a reason. You don’t have to say everything at once with every sentence.
