I know a bit back lemmy had a problem which led to my old instance just purging all images from a certain time frame / instance and temporarily defederating the affected instance until they removed it from their side.
I am also sure that other mainstream platforms I’ve been on have/had problems but I never just stumbled on it and had to see it.
I had accounts on two different instances and both disappeared. I suspect it’s because matrix is too hard to manage and moderate.
Whot, its not that bad. There are lots of instances that have been running for years with almost perfect uptime
