Every year, billions of vehicles worldwide shed an estimated 6 million tons of tire fragments. These tiny flakes of plastic, generated by the wear and tear of normal driving, eventually accumulate in the soil, in rivers and lakes, and even in our food. Researchers in South China recently found tire-derived chemicals in most human urine samples.

Electric cars are not THE solution.

    • Gross weight ~10% of a typical electric car, so probably ~10% tyre dust too.
    • Top speed 30km/h preferably on bikeways.
    • If its surface is designed to yield in a crash, safer to be hit by than a bare biker on a bare bike.
    • Takes less space than a biker because a 4-wheeler can be steered more accurately than a naturally unstable bike needing wobble margins.
