      I am from a third world country and find this offensive.

        This is like renaming the Gulf of Mexico; The US starts qualifying as a Third World Country so now they want to change the term.

        Edit - I looked it up:

        An underdeveloped country is a nation that lags behind most others in industrialization, education, standard of living, healthcare, life expectancy and other technological and cultural norms.

        The US is hitting 5 out of 6.

          It’s been the term for well over a decade. Which is when I learned about the term in college. First, second, and third world are western centric ways to talk about the alliances of Cold War countries. First world was the US, Western Europe and their allies. Second world was the communist countries, and third world was the rest of them.

      can’t be, the only metric that defined a third-world country was that it was not allied with the us or the ussr
