House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told reporters that it was simply not his job to second guess the president. “The president’s made his decision, and I don’t second guess those,”

It’s literally your fucking job as part of the legislative branch. The next 4 years are going to be so fun/s

Also what idiots, even with a pardon you’re still a convicted felon and a convicted felon can’t possess guns, which btw is what this guy got arrested for. Convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

I guess he doesn’t know what the purpose of congress is.

The thing about possestion of fireams is not true, by the way. Unless specified explicitly as part of the pardoning, you get all of your civil rights back. All means all.

In fact, a presidential pardon is currently the only way to have your firearm rights restored if you have been convicted of a federal felony.

Edit: although to be clear this applies to federal convictions only. Even Trump can’t pardon state convictions which I presume the guy in question had, which would also bar him. He would need to get those convictions pardoned or overturned in whatever state they happened in.

I have no idea if this is the case, but if he was a felon for any other reason at the federal level the pardon wouldn’t have cleared that either if it was for Jan 6

Jan. 6 was nowhere near Ball’s first brush with law enforcement. Three previous felony convictions — including for domestic-violence battery by strangulation, resisting law enforcement with violence, and battery against a law-enforcement officer — are listed in the charging documents.

Piece of shit was already a piece of shit before J6.
