In a fiery Truth Social post on Thursday night, the president declared that any country backing an alternative currency would be hit with 100 percent tariffs and effectively cut off from American markets. Trump made it clear there would be no room for negotiation, dismissing any possibility of an international shift away from the dollar.
It’s fucking embarrassing to be from the US at this point. I hope that if we eventually get our shit together and elect someone competent, that the rest of the world forgives us for this shit and lets us back into their good graces, but at this point, if you all tell us to go fuck ourselves, I won’t blame you at all.
Regardless of whether the world forgives us, it should never rely on us again.
It’ll be for your own good too. Once exceptionalism gets a few black eyes, you won’t feel so emboldened to ram self-serving agendas on whoever you like. Not you personally of course. ☺️
I’ve already forgiven. The last 4 seasons of The Dumpster Fire were absolutely wild, and I’ve enjoyed countless hours of the most bizarre entertainment I never even dared to ask for. The fifth seasons is already off to a great start, and I have high hopes for the season finale. Calling this a “wild ride” has already turned out to be the understatement of the year.
We’re only 10 days since the inauguration. This feels like a speedrun to the end. I can’t even imagine what we’ll look like even 6 months from now.
Well, the world did decide to start trusting Germany again.
Unfortunately, that came right when the “Hey, maybe that Hitler guy had some good ideas!” party started getting popular again.
Fool me once, fool me twice kinda situation… It will be very hard to trust USA in the future.
Yeah, we now know it wasn’t a fluke the first time. I’m afraid the trend won’t change unless someone takes the axe at American capital and redistributes massively a-la post Great Depression. The welfare state and labor power needs to be rebuilt. The market needs to be put in its place. I don’t see that happening for a decade at least.
Given the current state of politics all over the world, it looks more like isolationism and hatred are the ruling principles for years to come.
It’s really baffling to see that the left in almost all Western countries managed to destroy itself completely and left the fields of their respective countries to the fascists.
