Summary

Donald Trump initiated controversial tariffs, formally launching a trade war despite opposition from allies and widespread criticism among policy experts.

He imposed a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports, with additional charges on Canadian energy and Chinese goods under emergency powers.

Critics and experts lambasted the decision, arguing that the tariffs severely penalize American industries, undermine trade agreements, and reflect poor economic judgment.

Observers predict lasting repercussions for international relations and domestic markets.

    with Democrat help

Modern GOP strategy essentially says “never cooperate with dems”. They’ve been The Party of No for over 20 years.

“If he was for it,” former Ohio Senator George Voinovich explained, “we had to be against it.”

Easily over 30 years. Newt’s Contract ON America is from 1994, after all, and his dirty nasty tactics go back long before that. It was codified in his GOPAC memo, “Language: A Key Mechanism of Control”

      https://www.downwithtyranny.com/post/gingrich-s-1996-memo-fostered-divisiveness-there-s-a-much-better-way-to-do-what-he-was-attempting

Once he seized control, he did things intentionally to drive more division. The path that got us to where donvict waltzed in and slapped his name on the place was decades in the making. Newt and Ronnie Raygun played very big parts in it.

I know. I’m just saying they could if they wanted to. I’m under no illusions that any of these people have a spine.

Saying they could get over it and work with dems is kinda like saying a person with stolkholm syndrome can just get over it and defy their captor. It’s a mental condition, but in this case, they did it to themselves voluntarily.
