NOAA Employees Told to Pause Work With ‘Foreign Nationals’

An internal email obtained by WIRED shows that NOAA workers received orders to pause “ALL INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENTS.”

Collection of the basic data about temperature, pressure, precipitation and the likes that goes into weather forecasts and becomes climate data is an inherently international affair.

    NOAA also publishes and updates nautical charts and Notices to Mariners for all of the coastal areas of the US and all of the overseas territories. These charts include substantial amounts of international waters outside the 12 NM territorial sea limit.

    That activity might could involve coordination with other international charting authorities.
