I mean its not a completely absurd concept that you sometimes need to deal with short term hardships to achieve longterm greatness. Its just that in this case, the hardships dont actually help at all and are purely negative with little to no positives short or longterm.

I gave money to Bernie in 2016, 2020, and 2024. every time people told me that there’d be a giant wave of progressives who’d push him over the top.

They were being optimistic and it didn’t pan out.

Go back and look up Jerry Falwell. He was a Right Wing Christian who organized a “Moral Majority.”

His people grabbed the GOP by doing grassroots politics. If the local Republican organization had had twenty people at the meeting that picked the last candidate for county clerk, the MM’s would show up with fifty people. They grabbed up a lot of ‘unimportant’ positions and were soon able to get their candidates for higher offices nominated.

imho most people on the Left are unwilling to do that kind of low level day-to-day organizing.

They forget that MLK didn’t just lead marches, he got voters registered too.

That is correct, the people supporting Bernie were optimistic it would just pan out and didn’t put in the effort needed to get the movement going. Obama’s campaign did put in the work with a positive progressive message (hope and change) and that worked out pretty well.

Unfortunately nothing was learned from that success and the Dems went right back to trying to appeal to moderates instead of embracing Bernie or another progressive.

The way I look at it is that there was a fire in 2024. The firemen were old and fat and not doing a very good job. Instead of jumping in and actually helping the firemen, a lot of folks thought they were helping by calling the firemen bad at their job.

Yea I don’t know what it was like in the early ‘30s but, today, if someone couldn’t already see how awful the right is for the world then this administration really isn’t going to change any of that person’s worthless views.

Almost nobody had any hardships because of the New Deal. The few people who did were landowners whose property was flooded by the TVA.

Mel Gibson tweeted something about ‘daddy’s home and he’s got the belt out.’ It’s not about the progress, it’s about the punishment.
