It’s wild that thing was built in 1945. The first rudimentary computers had just recently been introduced, a lot of places didn’t even have paved roads, logistics by horse were a norm and people still burned oil lamps indoors.
That’s the temporary shed while they rigged it to be hoisted up the tower where it was detonated. You can see the pulley block attached to the top. Anything in that spot would have been temporary, whether they dismantled it or not, so wasting resources on a “better” structure would be silly.
It’s in the desert, so a shelter was probably necessary to keep things cooler and a bit cleaner.

What do you need to send someone to the moon? Fuel, oxidizer, an airtight box, and math. What do you need to get cars and electricity to the majority of people? Massive sociopolitical change and widespread adoption of new standards. Nukes are way easier than cars and electrical networks

This is “the gadget,” an implosion type nuclear bomb detonated in the trinity test, the first nuclear bomb test on earth (that we know of, heh).
It’s shown partially assembled inside the 100-foot test tower where it would eventually be detonated.
And watched literally by the only single guy in the group, who had to by right next to it because something might go wrong overnight.
