I was one of those dorks that loved the Prius when it was still goofy looking. A dependable car that will work even if you don’t have access to a charging station? And can actually hold a LOT of stuff? Yes, please.

Though yeah the new redesign looks pretty slick.

It wasn’t just the look. The previous generations were designed only for people who don’t care about the driving experience and only want something to get from point A to B.

There is a saying “it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow”, which is mostly true except for the old gens Prius. Zero engineering effort was put on the handling dynamics. The chassis was easily overwhelmed and handled like a brick on a wobblehead the moment you tried to push it a little.

The new gen did not only add nearly 100 horsepower without increasing the fuel consumption, they also stiffened the chassis and better balanced and tuned the suspension. It is no longer a dreadful box for people who don’t care about driving anymore. It’s still no sportscar by any stretch of the imagination but at least you can have some fun in it now.

TIL. I’m not a car person so thanks for the education. I’m one of those “A to B” people for sure.

My parents had one of the original Priuses and it was awful to drive. Weird upright position, tiny little hard wheels, and an astounding lack of power for something with two motors.

Oh, bless your heart. They’re called motorcycles because the first one was driven by an electric motor in 1870. Years before Otto & Benz created the engine.
