      There’s never going to be a better time to do this. Next election is a long time off. Making a clear statement of “establishment Democrats will either be dragged to the left or kept out in the cold” means they have to play. The potential downside of splitting the ticket and letting Republicans win by default is acceptable if establishment Dems are going to ignore their levers of power, anyway.

      If old democratic leadership can be cast off then it would be better to stay with the party to keep support of people who just vote democrat every time or dont pay attention to the news. It would also help avoid a split between the new party and democratic votes that might increase the chances of a gop win next time around (if there is one)

      Otherwise it would be better to start a new party / coalition free of the current leadership

      Now’s the time, seeing how the party is polling right now, they wouldn’t lose much by dissociating from it.
