TOKYO (Kyodo) – The government plans to open a hotline for male sex victims possibly in September as part of emergency steps unveiled Wednesday, with Japan’s top male talent agency hit by sexual abuse claims surfacing against its late founder Johnny Kitagawa.

Wow nice, Japan is making progress. For the first time a pop star came out as gay too and seems to be well enough recieved (there are quotes from mom and others supporting and accepting him)

The government will also consider law revisions that would require reporting of sexual abuses, including acts deemed indecent, to authorities in **nursery schools **and elsewhere, and strengthen measures against cases by individuals who take advantage of their stronger positions in workplace and through kinship ties.

Can anyone who can speak with actual experience in japan/japanese clear this bit up? Is it a translation error, cultural difference? Am I just somehow reading this wrong idk.

Not nurseries, nursery school. It’s for kids too young for elementary school, so about ages 3 to 5.

“Report to authorities in nursery school”. That implies like nursery school is somehow the overseers of this or that it’s strictly focusing on abuses in nursery school.

I assume it means for nursery school workers to report it to their bosses at the nursery schools, who would then report it officially.
