These laws are fine until something better than c comes out. Then we have to wait for laws to be updated to make changes. We all know how slow government moves.

That kind of things are not wrote as laws. What they usually do, is wrote a law creating a regulatory body, or given the power to an existing one, that can determine how it works. So, when new technologies come around, the regulator just need to update the regulations without the need of a new law.

If this is anything like Europe’s bill then if the USB-IF decides on USB D then they’d follow suit and switch to it.

USB-C is still easier than Lightning which I feel is the point?

USB-C isn’t better than lighting when it comes to being a port on your phone. With how poorly implemented C is on most devices, the only thing it would have going for it is the interior ability of USB 2.0.

The thing though is that lightning port is proprietary to Apple while USB is an open standard (in the sense that anyone can use it in their products. There are fees to have a vendor ID)

You have all these USB devices at home, but you need another cable for your phone only to line a company’s pocket.

Apple can absolutely implement USB-C properly and stop fleecing their customers

It being proprietary is virtually irrelevant considering how many bootleg products out here use it. And now all those bootleg manufacturers are going to make USB-C stuff that isn’t up to spec.

It being proprietary stops people from actually implementing it correctly.

It closes the market to either buy a 40$ cable from Apple which is fucking highway robbery, or you get shitty knockoff. No in-between. Proprietary has never been a good thing for consumers and never will.
