Went to a restaurant in LA today and when I got the check I noticed that it was a bit higher than it should be. Then I noticed this 18% service charge. So… We, as customers, need to help pay for their servers instead of the owners paying their servers a living wage. And on top of that they have suggested tip. I called bs on this. I will bet you that the servers do not see a dime of this 18% service charge. [deleted a word so it wasn’t a grammatical horror to read]
Everyone should stop eating out. Let the industry die.
These surcharges should be illegal. They should start requiring restaurants to put the full up-front price on the menu for menu items.
If only we lived in a country that puts working class people first. You know. The wealth creators.
Lol, sure. Those of us who have friends and want to hang out will instead just stay and eat at home on the weekends like anti-social hermits.
You can do those things without being a consumerist bootlicker dude.
Lol, going out to eat hardly makes one a consumerist bootlicker. It’s a service industry anyway, you’re not buying goods.
The issue isn’t bars or restaurants, it’s tipping culture and fair wages, which are problematic everywhere. Might as well ban all video games, due to poor worker treatment and the methods some games use to extract money from players.

It’s almost like poor people neither want nor deserve to live poorly

I don’t think this is “overshooting their budget” as much as it is really terrible, predatory billing practices that have become increasingly widespread.
Other countries have the final price including tax on their menus. The US? We’re still adding inventive ways to screw you over with fine print and legalese now on fucking restaurant menus.
People are getting screwed in this country, and it’s not because they had the audacity to go out for chicken wings once.
These billing practices should be illegal.
You shouldn’t have to have taken calc 4 in order to calculate your tab.
